looking for ... a norwegian tune

looking for ... a norwegian tune

I do know this isn't the place to ask, but maybe someone can help me : I will be playing for a wedding ceremony. they asked me old swiss, irish and scottish tunes. I have quite a few of these in my satchel, but as the bridegroom is norwegian, I though it might be pleasnt for them if I played one norwegian tune : so, if any body on this site knows the title of a well-known "NTM", and where to get the music, that^ll be a great help !
BTW, if there is an irish wedding tune (more like a slow air...), I'd love to know it... (wow, I managed to get back to the sesh's theme !) :-)

Re: looking for ... a norwegian tune

This is the famous video where Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh goes to Norway to pick up a Hardanger made for her.
Some NTM there.

Also, if you search for Hardanger in youtube, you'll find lots of NTM clips.

Re: looking for ... a norwegian tune

The title of the best known Norwegian bridal march is "Brudemarsj fra Seljord". Not sure how trad it is (though it sounds trad), but chances are that any Norwegian will recognize that tune. Good luck!

(I would play it in D)

I'll throw in som "endangered NTM" (played by two of the foremost musicians in Norway)

Re: looking for ... a norwegian tune

Ragnhild Furebotten, Norwegian fiddler, plays some lovely tunes, 'Endlig Vals' would be a perfect for a wedding, it's on her myspace below.

Moran's Return would be nice too, played here by Nollaig Casey

Re: looking for ... a norwegian tune

Dervish play a nice version of Vasan's J"osephine's Waltz" on their At The End of the Day album - but I think it's Swedish. I
ts gorgeous and I will have it played at my nuptuals if I ever am tamed.
