Tune ID

It's John Doherty but I can't figure out what the tune is called:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tune ID

After the Battle of Aughrim, perhaps?

Re: Tune ID

Hi There,

I'm not familiar with this tune, but the tags on the file list it as:
Title: 22 Welcome Home Grainne
Album Title: Star of Donegal

Hope that helps..

Re: Tune ID

I agree with previous posts...a bit Johnny Cope and a bit Battle of Aughrim, but I'll go for his version of The Battle of Aughrim.

Re: Tune ID

There's a Donegal jig of that name, too: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/2637

I cued up every recorded march of John I have, including both commercial and private stuff, and it isn't featured elsewhere, so Welcome Home Grainne march it seems to be, unless you bump into it on some other recording of DhĂșn na nGall music with another title.

Re: Tune ID

Maybe I've missed something here but the tune I listened to on Mediafire sounds nothing like the Welcome home Grainne on the session???

Re: Tune ID

Never trust tags.

Isn't it an earlier (as in thirty years earlier) version of track 10 (an unknown march) on 'Bundle and Go'?

Re: Tune ID

Very close but the B+G march starts with a low E instead of high E, then leads up to high G instead of low G.

Re: Tune ID

Exactly, Kevin, that's why I specifically referred to a thirty years earlier version. Such variations were the essence of Doherty's music.

I'll see if I've a name for it, and may add another transcription to the comments later...

"You're Welcome Home Royal Charlie"

Well, there you have it... :-/

That should have ended with the customary question mark ~ ?
